The 204 Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) is comprised of volunteers who belong to the Air Cadet League of Canada. There are presently 5.000 volunteers across Canada who, each year, give their time, expertise, and resources to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the League and enable cadets and their squadrons to achieve their goals

The 204 SSC is a society that provides the needed funding to support the activities of the Air Cadet Squadron. The 204 SSC sponsors additional activities and training that isn't covered by the Department of National Defence (DND), is a registered charity with Canada Revenue Agency and a society incorporated under the BC Societies Act.

The purpose of the SSC is to facilitate, support, promote and carry out the activities and programs of the Air Cadet League of Canada, and it's provincial arm the Air Cadet league of British Columbia, at the local level by funding and supplying the equipment and facilities that are necessary for the program. Without the SSC, activities such as power flying, marksmanship training, drill training, squadron cadet trips and much, much more would not be possible. In addition, the Effective Speaking program is operated by the SSC and League.

Volunteers
We are always on the lookout for qualified volunteers that are willing to contribute their time to the program. If you have skills that you think may be of use, please inquire with the Squadron.

Screening for SSC Membership
As an SSC member, we go through the screening process, which includes a criminal record check and interview. This is to provide security for both the Cadets and the parent volunteering. Screened individuals are also insured under the Air Cadet League insurance policy. Once approved, you will be issued an identification card that must be worn when in the presence of Cadets.

Fundraising Activities
Assessments charged for the training year, in conjunction with the fundraising, provides the necessary finances to support additional training and optional activities that are not funded by the Department of National Defence (DND).

This year cadets and parents will participate in the following fundraisers:
  • 50/50 Fall Raffle
  • Christmas Bake Sale
  • Bottle Drive (January)
  • Cadet Activity Challenge (Feburary)
  • Battery Recycling with Canadian Energy (year-round)
  • Return-It, Bottle Recycling
  • YKA Drop Zone Bottle Recycling

Effective Speaking
The Effective Speaking Program is an experience in individual development. The speaker’s own growth, measured against his or her own previous experience and accomplishments, is the most important feature of the competition.
Air Cadets are aiming to be more valuable members of society. They are learning to organize and present ideas, opinions, and information in a logical, persuasive manner. They are building confidence in self-expression. They are taking responsibility for the most important skill of adult life – communication.
Please follow the link below to find out more about the Effective Speaking Program on the Air Cadet League of Canada website. This will open a new tab on your web browser.
